Eden Rivers Trust 30 July 2009 Note from Nick Lloyd of ERT to Joe Flanagan of NWDA.
"I have read the links which you kindly provided and I now understand that the project is only now beginning to take shape. Naturally, Eden Rivers Trust is concerned that this initiative may have a severely negative impact upon the biodiversity of the Solway in general and the Eden Catchment (which has SAC/SSSI status) in particular!
With the desire to make a constructive contribution to the development of the project, can you please confirm that we will be invited to become an active participant. We have been researching, educating and conserving since 1996 and would bring a great deal of relevant experience to the Project Review Group. Do look us up at www.edenriverstrust.org.uk
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Nicholas Lloyd,
Chair - Eden Rivers Trust."
The Wildlife Trusts "There are 47 local Wildlife Trusts across the whole of the UK, Alderney & the Isle of Man. We are working for an environment rich in wildlife for everyone.
With 791,000 members, we are the largest voluntary organisation dedicated to conserving the full range of the British Isles’ habitats and species.
The Wildlife Trusts supports the development of marine renewable technology - but it must be the right technology in the right place. The Solway Firth is one of the UK’s marvellous ecosystems, which will become ever more important as our wildlife has to adapt to climate change. If we are to harness the tidal power of our nations’ estuaries, which are globally important for wildlife, then we must strive for a truly sustainable option with minimal environmental impact. If we do not, we will have failed in our responsibility to deliver sustainable green energy for future generations." Dr Lissa Goodwin-Marine Policy Officer
